Grandma's Christmas gingerbread house recipe holds 30 years of festive memories

Every Christmas Eve, the aroma of gingerbread wafting from the kitchen is the most profound holiday mark engraved in my childhood. Grandma's gingerbread house recipe has been passed down from her youth to the present. Over the past 30 years, every gingerbread has been filled with the story of family reunion. Today, I finally want to share this warmth with everyone.

The ingredients for making gingerbread are very simple: 500 grams of low-gluten flour, 150 grams of butter, 100 grams of brown sugar, 80 grams of honey, 2 eggs, 5 grams of cinnamon powder, and 3 grams of ginger powder. First, thoroughly whisk the softened butter and brown sugar, then add the eggs and honey and stir well. Next, sift in the flour, cinnamon powder and ginger powder, knead into a smooth dough, and refrigerate to rest for 1 hour.

Next comes the most interesting shaping part. Use cookie molds to press out the shapes of the house's walls, roof and doors and Windows, and then put them in the preheated oven to bake at 180℃ for 12 to 15 minutes. While waiting for the gingerbread to cool down, start making the frosting: 2 egg whites, 300 grams of powdered sugar, and 10 milliliters of lemon juice. Whisk until they form upright sharp corners when lifted with an egg beater.

When assembling the gingerbread house, first apply frosting along the edges of the walls to form the main body of the house. Let it stand for 20 minutes to allow the frosting to solidify, and then cover it with the roof. Finally, decorate the roof and walls with colorful sugar beads, chocolate bars and marshmallows. You can even stick transparent sugar sheets on the "Windows" to simulate the effect of glass.

Every year, the whole family gathers around to decorate the gingerbread house. The children throw candies all over the place, while the adults take pictures with smiles on the side. Now that my grandma is getting old, it's my turn to host this "gingerbread house party", but the familiar aroma and laughter have never changed. This Christmas, why not try making a gingerbread house and let the deliciousness become a carrier of memories?
